Understanding Startup Costs and Financial Forecasts

How to think about setup costs, running costs and early-stage forecasts.

Separate the cost types

Startup planning usually separates one-time setup costs, such as registration and initial fit-out, from recurring operating costs, such as premises, staff and renewals. Government fees and third-party charges depend on the activity and structure.

Treat forecasts as estimates

Financial forecasts are working estimates, not guarantees. Conservative assumptions and a margin for unexpected costs make an early-stage plan more dependable than optimistic projections.
